BECKE, Florence. (Dubuque, IA- ). Contest winner. Becke, a descendant of three people killed when the TOWN CLOCK plunged to the ground on May 25, 1872, won a contest in 1970 to name the new pedestrian way in Dubuque.

One of sixteen to offer the name "Town Clock Plaza," Becke's entry had the earliest postmark, October 22, the day the activity began. The contest, sponsored by the Downtown Association, gave as first prize a Las Vegas weekend trip for two people.
