HILLYARD, Lorenzo O. (Wayne County, IA, Sept. 4, 1874-Unknown). President, Midland Chemical Company. While working as a general tank wagon superintendent for the Standard Oil Company, Hillyard made a careful study of disinfectants. In 1901 he began to manufacture these household chemicals on Second Street in Dubuque. The company that he founded prospered until it gained recognition as one of the nation's largest disinfectant and germicide companies.
