Within months of his return, the Iowa Coffin Company was organized, and Simones became its largest stockholder. In 1884, Simones established a large store on the corner of Sixteenth and Clay [[STREETS]]. He constructed a three-story building and carried a full line of clothing, boots and shoes. At the time of his death, he was the company's Secretary and General Manager. He was also Vice-President and a director of the Citizen's State Bank, and a director of the Key City Fire Insurance Company, the Dubuque Pressed Brick Company, and the Elgin Silver Plate Company of Elgin, Illinois.
