HAMMEL, William. (Dubuque, IA-- ). Hammel represented the 1st Ward in Dubuque from 1982 to 1985. He was instrumental in founding the GREATER DUBUQUE DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION and served on its original Board of Directors. He was president of Dubuque Local 353 of the Professional Firefighters Association from 1969-1970. Hammel was chairman of the Dubuque Housing Code Rehabilitation Commission, Dubuque Housing Code Review Committee, and the Dubuque Housing Advisory and Appeals Board. He was a co-founder of Dubuque Families in Action. He campaigned unsuccessfully for a position on the Dubuque City Council in 2009.
