Locally Newburgh was president and secretary of the Dubuque chapter and secretary of the Iowa Council of the Painting and Decorative Contractors of America. Newburgh was a president of the Dubuque Tennis Association and member of the Civil Air Patrol and Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
