HARRIS, Ray R. (Unknown-Dubuque, IA, Aug. 24, 1970). Harris, the first Iowa member of the American College of Surgeons, opened his practice in 1908. He served as the local surgeon for the Chicago-Burlington-Quincy Railroad (1909-1960), local surgeon for the Chicago Great Western (1914-1933), and district surgeon of the Illinois Central Railroad (1914-1960).
Harris also served as physician for INTERSTATE POWER COMPANY from 1914 to 1950 and for the United States Employees Commission from 1915 to 1960. He was president of the Iowa Clinical Surgeons Society and the Dubuque Medical Association.
