MEUSER BEER COMPANY. Local brewery founded by William Meuser, a CIVIL WAR veteran. Meuser died at the age of forty-eight leaving two sons who were too young to operate the business. The last mention of the brewery, located in the 2300 block of Central Avenue to the rear of the property, comes in the city directory of 1878-1879.

The brewery and machinery were leased to the IOWA BREWERY(Schmid Brothers and Company) by Meuser's widow. The Schmid Brothers operated the brewery until it merged with three others to form the DUBUQUE BREWING AND MALTING COMPANY.
