KEY CITY QUADRILLE. The Quadrille was fashionable dance in the late 18th- and 19th-century. Performed by four couples in a rectangular formation, it is related to American square dancing. The Lancers, a variant of the quadrille, became popular in the late 19th century and was still danced in the 20th century in folk-dance clubs. (1)
The Key City Quadrille was expected to disband on June 11, 1873 after providing local entertainment an unstated amount of time. (2) This, however, did not occur as the Dubuque Herald reported that the third social hop was to take place the last week of January, 1874 at the Globe hall. (3)
