ROWENA, SOUTH DAKOTA. In 1888 this community located ten miles from South Falls was growing rapidly. Founded by Thomas J. Ryan and George M. Nix of Dubuque, the community was located near large granite quarries and large deposits of red clay from which mineral paint could be made.
