In January 1966, McMullin had joined the newspaper as its advertising director. In 1971 he was named the business manager.  McMullin was named general manager in 1975. (1)

He held the position until 1983 when he was appointed the president of the [[WOODWARD COMMUNICATIONS, INC.]] A former president of the multi-state Inland Press Association, McMullin ended his association with the newspaper and WCI in January 1987. He became president of St. Louis Suburban Journals. (2) In 2014 he was in the newspaper brokerage business in Phoenix, Arizona. (3)
