FERRING, Peter. (Prussia, June, 29, 1836--  ). Law enforcement officer. Ferring emigrated to America in 1850 and came to Galena the same year. In 1851, he came to Dubuque.  He worked in the mercantile business for about eleven years and then engaged in brewing. He was elected county sheriff in 1875, and was re-elected in 1877, and again re-elected in 1879. He also held town and school offices for a number of years.
