Gerald "Jerry" G. (Dubuque, IA, Sept 27, 1930 – Dubuque, IA, Dec 1, 2015) Gerald was best known for his long-time association with bowling in Dubuque. His lifelong love of bowling started as a pin setter in the bowling alleys in the basement of Sacred Heart’s Marquette Hall in the 1940s. Later he worked two years at Marquette Bowling Alleys in Marquette Hall, and then went on to manage Holy Trinity Bowling Alleys, where he oversaw the addition of eight new lanes.
In 1957 Pregler joined Ray Segar of St. Louis in the development of RIVERSIDE BOWL at the end of Hawthorne Street. He managed Riverside Bowl for the next 45 years. Pregler continued to bowl in league until the age of 80. He was an active member of the Iowa Bowling Proprietors Association and a charter member of the Dubuque 700 Club.
Pregler was also an active member in the Dubuque County Democratic Party and ran for Party Chair in 1967 and was nominated for chair in 1974. In both instances, Pregler did not garner enough votes to become chairman. Pregler was inducted into the Dubuque County Democratic Party Hall of Fame along with his younger brother and former mayor of Dubuque, Walter A. PREGLER in 2007. In attendance for the induction ceremonies were U.S. Senators Joe Biden (D-DE) and Christopher Dodd (D-CT). Iowa Governor Chet Culver (D) was present to accept the induction into the Hall of Fame on behalf of his father John Culver.
Gerald G. Preglar was the brother of Robert L. PREGLER and Walter A. Pregler and the son of Walter G. Pregler.
