ROUND PIGTOE. Mussel. Found in medium to large rivers in mud, sand, or gravel, the Round Pigtoe has been historically widespread but uncommon. It has been reported around Dubuque in the 1990s. The young are hosted by the northern redbelly dace, southern redbelly dace, spotfin shiner, and the bluntnose minnow. In 2009 it was considered endangered in Iowa.
