REALITY CHECK. Owned and operated by Mike and Barb Heitz, Reality Check opened in 1917 at 1106 University. The skate and snowboard shop moved less than three years later across the street to 1085 University. The store stocked skateboards and snow boards as well as a line of apparel, disc golf supplies and scooters. Considered a "hub" for enthusiasts, the store and its owners became supporters for the creation of a skate board park in the city.
The announcement that the store would close most of its business came in December, 2016. The space for skateboarding and snowboarding equipment and apparel would be leased to another tenant. The store would continue to do piercings.
