Metz received three patents for photographic albums and binders. One binder was made by securing each page of the album to metal plates. These were placed together so that a series of joints were formed. The eyes of the hinges caused spaces to be left equal to the thickness of the page. This allowed photos to be mounted on the page without the book bulging.
