SMITH, Harry B. (Dubuque Township, Oct. 30, 1872-- ). Smith attended Prescott grammar school and graduated from the [DUBUQUE HIGH SCHOOL]] in 1893. He graduated from the State University of Minnesota in 1897 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
He returned to Dubuque and taught mathematics for eight years and then taught the subject at ST. JOSEPH COLLEGE. He held the chair of mathematics at West Side High School in Des Moines for three years before returning to Dubuque in 1906. He taught algebra in the high school.
A member of the state teachers' association and the Northeast Iowa Educational Society, Smith was highly regarded. He ran successfully as a Democrat for county superintendent of schools in 1910.
