BUTT, James E. (Dubuque, IA, December 4, 1927 – February 21, 1998) The Butt family dated back to the early residents of Dubuque, being involved the fruit and vegetable business.  In 1958, Jim established [[BUTT'S FLORIST]] at 2197 University Avenue.  Quickly outgrowing, he moved the business up the street to the corner of University and Asbury Rd. (2300 University).  When he retired in 1989 his children, Steve and daughter-in-law Sue and Patti Butt Schroeder assumed ownership of the flower shop.

Known as one of Dubuque’s most innovative and inspirational floral designers, Jim was asked to conduct floral design schools in the Midwest on many occasions.  He was on the founding board of directors for the Floriculture Department at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
