DUBUQUE GUARDS. At a meeting informally called at the DUBUQUE CITY HALL on June 8, 1875, the Dubuque Guards, a military company, was organized. Despite little publicity, thirty-six men signed up. A great effort was promised to obtain all the equipment and arms by the Fourth of July when the group would make its first appearance.
