SHOT TOWER (James Hughes). A shot tower valued at $2,000 owned by James Hughes was destroyed by fire in 1865. Plans for its reconstruction were announced in June of 1866. The new building was to be made of brick and stand two stories tall. The tower was to be twelve feet high. It was thought the new tower could be operational by August 1, 1866.
