Spahn succeeded [[ALTMAN, Franc Collier|Franc Collier ALTMAN]] as president of the Spahn and Rose Lumber Company in 1987. Spahn served on the boards of the Northwestern Lumbermen's Association and [[AMERICAN TRUST AND SAVINGS BANK]]. He was president of the Iowa Lumbermen's Association and was treasurer of the [[DUBUQUE BOYS' CLUB]].
