In 1987 Spahn succeeded Franc Collier ALTMAN as president of the Spahn and Rose Lumber Company co-founded by his two grandfathers. Spahn served on the boards of the Northwestern Lumbermen's Association and AMERICAN TRUST AND SAVINGS BANK.
