Massey built the Steam Motor Railroad and was also in charge of building the works of the Steam Supply Company. In January 1880 he resigned the management of the Dubuque Steam Supply Company and began contracting for the Holly Steam Supply Company.

MASSEY, Frederick I. (Lockport, NY, May 31, 1842--Dubuque, IA, Mar. 13, 1908). Massey came to Dubuque from the state of New York after serving in the CIVIL WAR. He held the position of auditor of the CHICAGO, DUBUQUE AND MINNESOTA RAILROAD until 1876.
