WALLER-COOPER PARK. A tract of land 100 x 150 feet lying between Cooper and Fenelon and east of the Claridge Apartments was deeded to the city in John R. and Austin C. Waller and their sister Mae W. Long of Washington, D.C. in December, 1958 with the provision that it be used forever as a play area and that the donors be allowed to name it.

The donation was suggested through Miss Dean Cooper Gilmore, a first cousin of the Wallers. Miss Gilmore's grandfather, Augustin A. COOPER had purchased the entire hillside which became known as Cooper's Heights to obtain the lot at Fifth and Bluff upon which he had the GREYSTONE constructed. Upon his death, Cooper[s properties were divided among his children. Two of these children were the mothers of Miss Gilmore. His grandsons included John and Austin Cooper WALLER.
