	WINTER, Ethel M. (Guttenberg, IA, Dec. 8, 1900--Dubuque, IA, Jan. 30, 1993). Ethel was Dubuque's first Gold Star Mother of [[WORLD WAR II]]. Her son, Gerald, was the first Dubuque resident to die in World War II during the June 1942 bombing of England. The Gerald F. Winter Veterans of Foreign Wars Post was named in his honor.
