	Williams came the Dubuque in 1973 to open his practice. He held collegiate academic positions at the University of Iowa, University of Illinois, New York University, and the University of Texas in Houston. These positions provided him opportunities to publish papers, help author textbooks and expand his clinical research. He served as an examiner for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and served as the organization's president from 1997-1998.
