Wilkie was the first director of the [[CENTER FOR DUBUQUE HISTORY]] at [[LORAS COLLEGE]]. He held the position from 1979 to 1986. A priest of the [[ARCHDIOCESE OF DUBUQUE]] since 1954, Wilkie graduated from Loras (maxima cum laude) with his B.A. degree before pursuing graduate work at the Catholic University of America and the University of Cambridge. He received a PhD. (summa cum laude) from the University of Fribourg, Switzerland. Wilkie held fellowships in Italy; Zurich, Switzerland; Germany; and the University of Kansas. From 1972 to 1973 Wilkie was a Visiting Fellow at the University of Cambridge. In 1976 he was elected a Life Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. &lt;br /&gt;
