Beginning on August 9, 2017, Dubuque played host to the 50th annual USCA Marathon Canoe and Kayak Championships. The five-day event was held near [[CHAPLAIN SCHMITT ISLAND]]. The nationals were open to all, although a registration fee and membership were required.
