In 1873 Upham moved to Chicago where he was involved in the financial department of the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Chicago Inter-Ocean&amp;#039;&amp;#039; until 1877. From then until 1885, he was an auditor in the Chicago post office. In 1887, Upham and Palmer purchased the entire stock of the Industrial World Company in Chicago. They continued this business until 1889.&lt;br /&gt;
