The actual bronze casting of Mary Frances Clarke is nine feet tall. The actual height of the statue from the ground to the top of a brick cross is about eighteen feet. The statue, designed by Clarke art professor Douglas Schlesier, was installed on the campus in 1993. The Celtic cross behind the bronze casing represents Mary Frances Clarke's Irish heritage. The college's other three co-founders are represented in bronze reliefs surrounding the base. Also on the base are four columns recovered from Sacred Heart Chapel that burned in 1984.
