She then ran successful re-election campaigns in 1982, 1986, and 1990. Prior to her appointment, Reynolds, vice chairwoman of the Dubuque Democratic Party, had completed five years of membership on the county's Democratic Party Central Committee where she served as treasurer, secretary, and vice chairperson.

	Reynolds served on the Dubuque Human Rights Commission from 1974 to 1975 and was one of the first Iowa Democrats to back Jimmy Carter in his campaign for the presidency. In 1976 she was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention. Reynolds, the only non-White House staff person at the 1980 convention, was in charge of the delegations from New Mexico; Hawaii; Washington, D.C.; Kentucky; Maine; and Virginia~~. She was a lobbyist for the Iowa County Recorders' Association of which she was also an official.
