&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;New page&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;div&gt;NEWBURGH, J. W. (Tuscarawas Co., OH, Jan 13, 1840--1913). Newburgh attended school in Ohio until the age of sixteen. He traveled to Detroit and learned his trade in Detroit and Cleveland.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Newburgh came to Dubuque in 1862 and established his house and sign painting business. He gave special attention to decorative painting and frescoing, employed fifteen men and sent his work through eastern Iowa, Chicago and even New York. He was a founding member on December 5, 1874 of Dubuque Lodge No. 9 of the Masonic Order. He was also a member of Chapter and Commandery- the Knights of Pythias, I.O.O.F.,and the A.O.U.W. He was a past president of the Master House Painters and Decorators&amp;#039; Association of Iowa. (1) &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In September, 1860, he married Miss Elizabeth Brendle, from Galena, Illinois; they had three children.&lt;br /&gt;
