On September 8, 1998 Murray became the president of Brenton bank in Davenport with responsible for all retail banking functions and for real-estate, investment and commercial banking business efforts. He came to the Davenport bank from Mercantile Bank in Dubuque, where he most recently was executive vice president. (3)

He served as president of the Dubuque Youth Council, chairperson of the Dubuque Park and Recreation Commission and was involved with projects associated with the [[DUBUQUE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE]], the [[GREATER DUBUQUE DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION]], and the American Cancer Society.

	In 1982 Murray was named Outstanding Young Man by the Dubuque [[JAYCEES]] for his fund raising efforts on behalf of the American Cancer Society. The same year he was honored for his efforts that led to passage of the recreation facilities bond issue. He was presented the "Lay Person Award" by the Iowa Park and Recreation Association in 1983. In 1986 Murray received the Outstanding Service Award from the City of Dubuque for his efforts on the Park and Recreation Commission. The Dubuque Jaycees awarded Murray the Outstanding Young Person Award in 1988 for his extensive community involvement and leadership.
