Coming to Dubuque in 2016, as a single mother, Murdock found needed help at the [[MULTICULTURAL FAMILY CENTER]] with its after school programs. In October, 2024 as the new director of the Center, she planned on the Center becoming "the hub of the community" as a provider of programs and activities.

In an interview with staff of the ''Telegraph Herald'', she said she would like for the Center to offer regularly recurring programming for adults as well as children. She hoped the programs could help people learn more about financial literacy and offer educational opportunities with the Northeast Iowa Community College. Compared to her former role in the Housing Department, she enjoyed having a wider reach to help those eligible for a housing choice voucher.
