Bill’s first job was at CarAdCo as a mail clerk, then he worked at the [[DUBUQUE PACKING COMPANY]]. He worked at the [[NATIONAL BUTTER COMPANY]] before and after completing training for the National Guard. Bill began his career with the [[DUBUQUE FIRE DEPARTMENT]] in 1964. While working shift he also drove school bus for the [[DUBUQUE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT]]. He rose in the ranks at the Dubuque Fire Department and eventually served as Fire Chief from 1983 until retiring in 1996.&lt;br /&gt;
