	MERCHANTS' EXCURSION. On August 3, 1864 it was announced that a "merchant's excursion" was being planned. The event was to cultivate business along the route of the [[DUBUQUE AND SIOUX CITY RAILROAD]].		MERCHANTS' EXCURSION. 	To achieve the goal, two passenger cars and an engine ~~would be~~ chartered. Beginning in the morning, the train ~~would stop~~ at all stations to visit the local merchants. Dinner ~~would be~~ planned for Manchester with an overnight stop ~~made~~ in Independence. The next day the train ~~would continue~~ to Cedar Falls. Dinner ~~would be~~ planned in Waterloo with a return to Dubuque that night. The wives of the businessmen ~~would be~~ welcomed.		To achieve the goal, two passenger cars and an engine were chartered.
