McEvoy also served on the first bathing beach commission and was a director of the [[CARNEGIE-STOUT PUBLIC LIBRARY]], [[DUBUQUE BUILDING AND LOAN ASSOCIATION]] and the [[DUBUQUE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE]]. For four years, he was the treasurer of the American Red Cross and filled the position of acting postmaster for two years.
