The daughter of Elizabeth Adams Burden and [[BURDEN, George R. &amp;quot;Bill&amp;quot;|George R. &amp;quot;Bill&amp;quot; BURDEN]], Viola grew up at [[FOUR MOUNDS]]. Her interest in art was encouraged by her parents and grandparents and she graduated from The Masters School, a private high school in New York. She married [[LANGE, Robert B.|Robert B. LANGE]] in 1950. While living in Dubuque, she studied print making at the University of Iowa.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Moving to Colorado with her husband in 1969, Viola continued her interest in sports earning a black belt in karate in her mid-50s. She studied photography and continued to study art in New York and art and history at [[CLARKE COLLEGE]]. She studied painting at the Art Institute of Chicago. She taught art classes at Colorado Mountain College in Colorado and at Lac Court Oreilles Indian Reservation in Wisconsin. She established the Lumina Workshop in Boulder, Colorado where she taught photography from 1977 to 1984.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Viola&amp;#039;s art has been displayed at the Smithsonian Institute, Corcoran Gallery of Art, International Center of Photography in New York, and the Art Museum of New Mexico among others.&lt;br /&gt;
