He began work as a buyer and later became a factory superintendent. Klauer served as a director of Time Finance Corp., [[AMERICAN TRUST AND SAVINGS BANK]], [[DUBUQUE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE]], [[DUBUQUE BOYS' CLUB]] and the [[DUBUQUE VISITING NURSE ASSOCIATION]].
