	JUNIOR AUXILIARY. Organized in late 1902 for the children staying at the [[HOME OF THE FRIENDLESS]], the club met every Saturday morning from nine to eleven. The time was divided into periods of work. A reading class, a kindergarten, and a sewing circle were planned so that the children could be entertained and educated at the same time. 	A branch of the newly formed Auxiliary called the Band of Mercy was established by Miss Bessie Bissell in late November, 1902. The organization was an outgrowth of the Humane Society locally and the Band of Mercy movement which began in Boston several years before according to newspaper accounts. The meeting to organize the auxiliary was called by Mrs. [[RICHARDS, Benjamin Billings\|Benjamin Billings, RICHARDS]].
