	The house is constructed of brick although it has since been covered with stucco and then siding. The house now fronts on West 11th Street, but the interior's main floor suggests that it once fronted in the opposite direction. When it was constructed, it was the only house on the hill between West 14th Street and Julien Avenue and west probably as far as the West Dubuque mines. The property surrounding the house made up the Farley farm and on it were the mines Farley worked during his earliest days in Dubuque.
