New page

JACK WRIGHT AND HIS OHIOIANS. Around 1925 when Dubuque residents began to receive eastern radio stations, WLW Cincinnati was one of the favorites. Few people listening in Dubuque realized that the musical group that originally was called the "Ambassadors" and later "Jack Wright and His Ohioians" was really organized in Dubuque. Its rhythmic style made it popular at Cincinnati's Miami Grove night club. The group's main competition was a five-piece band playing nearby which was led by the future famed Guy Lombardo.

The Ohioians, which made many records, included Ed Cosgrove, Spence Wright, Jack Wright all from Dubuque with Bill Beck from East Dubuque, Bob Wells from Platteville, Joe Malone from Galena, Jess Cullen of Platteville, and Dave Toller from Cleveland, Ohio.
