	He came to Dubuque in 1890 and soon assumed the office of assistant city engineer. After one year's service, Ilg was elected county engineer, an office to which he was repeatedly elected by Dubuque voters. Kept busy constructing bridges throughout Dubuque County, he also served as the superintendent of the work. During this time, he drew a set of plat books of all the townships and all the subdivisions of outlots and minerals in the city for assessment purposes. When the office was made appointive, he was chosen again for the position by the supervisors for a total length of service of twenty years. (2)		He came to Dubuque in 1890 and soon assumed the office of assistant city engineer. After one year's service, Ilg was elected county engineer, an office to which he was repeatedly elected by Dubuque voters.
