In 1989 he was recognized for his fifty years of service to the board of the Y.M.C.A. (1) In 1990 Herr, then living in Iowa City and national coordinator for SCORE, was a member of the selection committee of the 1990 Outstanding Philanthropist Award for Dubuque. (2)
