A former board member of the [[DUBUQUE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE]], Hardie served on the boards of Albrecht Acres and the [[DUBUQUE ARTS COUNCIL]], director of the Five Flags Executive Committee and the Five Flags Executive Fund Committee, director of the [[DUBUQUE COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY]], and was a project business consultant for [[JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT]]. Hardie served as president of the Rotary Club, the St. Columbkille Parish Council and the [[DUBUQUE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT]] Board of Education. He was also a director of the [[DUBUQUE BOYS' CLUB]].

	In addition to the ''Telegraph Herald'' award, Hardie received the Distinguished Civic Service Award from the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce, Boys' Club of America Bronze Keystone Award (1973, 1982), and the Distinguished Alumnus Award from [[LORAS COLLEGE]] (1974). He was inducted into the Outdoor Advertising Hall of Fame in 1995.
