	At the start of the [[CIVIL WAR]], he enlisted in the 5th I.V.C., Co. E. Captured at Newlin, on McCook's raid, he was a prisoner in Andersonville Prison for seven months. He was sick and so ~~near~~ starved that he had to be carried out on a stretcher. As a result of his imprisonment, Hensen spent five months in hospital.
