GOODING, W. A. (Lockport, IL, Jan. 4, 1833--Unknown). In 1852, Gooding became part of the management of the Illinois and Michigan Canal as the assistant of John B. Preston, the Superintendent. Gooding later succeeded him as Superintendent of the canal and occupied that position until after the canal passed into the hands of the State in 1870.
