	GLEED'S BREWERY. Gleed's Brewery was a successor of the [[DUBUQUE JOINT STOCK BREWING COMPANY]] along South Locust in Dubuque. It was operated by Ambrose Gleed ~~from~~ 1872 when he leased the entire operation ~~until 1876 when it was forced to close~~. In ~~1878~~ the ~~brewery~~ and ~~equipment was purchased by [[PIER, John\|John PIER]]~~. (1)		GLEED'S BREWERY. In 1873 Gleed had his ale confiscated under the "Maine law" which prohibited the sale of all alcoholic beverages except for "medicinal, mechanical or manufacturing purposes." At the conclusion of a trial lasting three days in Fort Dodge, the court ruled in his favor and he returned to Dubuque in triumph. (1)
