&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;New page&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;div&gt;GERMAN MECHANICS BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION. Organized in the spring of 1866, the society allowed membership regardless of nationality. The first officers were Ferdinand Zehetner, president; M. Mohn, vice president; M. Alexander, secretary; and Joseph Blocklinger, treasurer. The object of the organization was to care for its members when sick, inter them when they died, and make provisions for their families. The initiation fee ranged from $5 to $15 according to age. There was a weekly assessment of thirty-five cents.&lt;br /&gt;

Sick members received four dollars per week. When the person died, the family received $150.00.  Meetings were held on the second Sunday of each month at the Turner Hall on Ninth and Iowa [[STREETS]].&lt;br /&gt;
