From approximately 1880 to 1930 the Gentleman's Farm Movement in the United States offered some Americans the opportunity to return to the idyllic country life prior to the Industrial Revolution. Gentleman's or hobby farms allowed their owners ~~the opportunity of working~~ in the city while living in the country. Although the primary focus was not on making money, owners did spend considerable amounts of time and ~~money~~ on such activities as crop cultivation and animal breeding.
