In 1978 he was named Dubuque County Sight Saving chairman by the Iowa Society for the Prevention of Blindness. In addition for raising support for the Society, he was charged with distributing information to residents about blinding diseases, eye safety, and child eye care.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Of his family of six children, three. H. Hunter, C. Rommell, and Gretchen, followed their father&amp;#039;s career path into ophthalmology. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
He retired in March, 1995.&lt;br /&gt;
