The Big Band Show” which performed sell-out concerts annually in Dubuque as well as being presented in other locations around the Midwest~~. In 2003 and 2005 he was honored to be featured at the Glenn Miller Festival in Clarinda, Iowa~~.		In June 1991, Fuerste was the musical director of "Show Boat" performed at the [[GRAND OPERA HOUSE]], president-elect of the [[DUBUQUE ARTS COUNCIL]], and played trombone in two local musical groups. The "Dubuque Brass Quintet" performs “sell-out” Christmas concerts annually. His American Vintage Orchestra has been featured at the annual Glenn Miller Festival and on Music Television. He spent more than two years creating “Swing Out! The Big Band Show” which performed sell-out concerts annually in Dubuque as well as being presented in other locations around the Midwest.

	Fuerste worked as an opthalmologist at The Fuerste Eye Clinic with his brother and sister. The family business in 2008 had eighty years of history since its founding by his grandfather and its operation for more than forty-five years by his mother and father. In 2000 Fuerste was president of the Iowa Academy of Ophthalmology. In 2002 he became president of the Iowa Medical Society, received a distinguished service award from the Iowa Academy of Ophthalmology, was inducted into the Grand Theater Hall of Fame, and received the [[FIRST CITIZEN AWARD]].
